About Us

The Wine & Spirit Trade Club was formed in 1962 to provide the respective trade's with informal yet interesting tastings as well as offering social events where members have the opportunity to discuss business or just mingle.
The club was originally called 'The Under 40's Club' but time moved on and most of the members became over 40! It was then decided that a name change would be best and the club was re-launched as the WSTC.
Membership of the club is open to any who works within the wine, spirits or beer trade. A number of our events are also open to non-members at a slight higher price. Annual subscription to the club is £20 and can be paid by cheque or standing order please see the Join WSTC for further information.

Charity Fundraisers
There are a number of events in the WSTC diary that are organized to raise money for charity.
The two main charities that we donate to are the Wine Trade Foundation and the Wine & Spirit Trade's Benevolent Society. The aim of both of these charities is to raise funds for people who once worked in the drinks industry but now are unable to cope on their own financially or physically difficult.

Last year's charity events included:

The Wine Trade Foundation Walk
This took us on a blue plaque tour around central London, the walk started at 9 in the morning with our first pit stop at 10.30am. As you can image the pit stops consisted of wine and beer! You will be glad to know that everyone made it to the finishing line albeit slightly more merrier than when they started out. The WTF walk is organised by the Wine Trade Sports Club, for more information please contact the president of the WTSC www.wtsc.org.uk

Charity Quiz and 1970's Disco (Joint WSTC and WTSC event)
This was a brilliant night that took place last summer and we managed to raise just under £2,000 for the Wine Trade Foundation.
Over fifteen teams from companies such as Farr Vintners, Bibendum, John Armit, Decorum Vintners, John E Fells, McKinley Vintners, MM&D, WSET, Barlow Doherty, Thresher, Phipps PR and Mayfair Cellars fought valiantly for the first prize. In the end the deciding factor between 1st and 2nd place was a yellow card issued by Chris Porter to Farr Vintners for questioning him on a topic very dear to his heart - 'Freight Forwarding'. You would have thought they would have known better!

Hon Sec Sky Dives for Charity
As many of you know I recently had a moment of insanity when I jumped from a height of 13,500 ft attached to a strange man who had my life in his hands. We plummeted to the earth at around 120 mph and all I could remember thinking was that I must breath and try and smile for the camera which believe me is quite difficult at such high speeds. You will be glad to hear that I didn't just do this so that I could tick off another item from my 'Things to do before I'm 30' list but I also managed to raise £500 for The Wine Trade Foundation. Sky Dive no. 2 is being planned for the summer 2004.
